P-Town, Me-Town

P-Town, Me Town - Utility Box photoIn front of 780 Main Street, Pleasanton, a large multi-sided painted utility box heralds the iconic Pleasanton sign and celebrates the town lovingly known by locals as “P-Town”.  Artist Chinar Desai employs her considerable architectural and designing skills to offer precision lines revealing layers of the Pleasanton community. Desai holds LEED AP, GPR certifications indicating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and construction of green buildings. She is also the founder of Art Process Studio offering art education for children. Chinar Desai is an Architect/Designer during the day and an Art Mentor during the evening.

The bright blue sky of each panel reveals treasured architectural landmarks and invites a walk around the painted box to discover the layers of the town. The discovery might include the Rose Hotel, a bookstore, the Firehouse Arts Center, the Alameda County Fair, or perhaps you recognize another landmark.

Look closely!  It is the intention of the artist for you to discover yourself in the community. The title of this artwork confirms the importance of being part of  Pleasanton.

The Civics Arts Commission under Project Paint Box funded P-Town, Me-Town for $500 under the Public Art Acquisition Fund in 2015. Nancy and Gary Harrington were additional sponsors.
