Pennington & Sylvester

Pennington and Sylvester photo 4Whimsical and inviting, two bronze dogs bring joy and smiles to unsuspecting viewers. “Sylvester and Pennington” are one of 130 sculptures created by senior artist Marty Goldstein who at the age of 62 retired from the corporate world to begin his loving adventure of sculpting animals, usually dogs.  Goldstein’s sculptures range from works of pure fantasy to realistic replicas that capture the spirit of the subject and evoke a smile from the observer. The Renown Children’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada, has ten of his bronze dogs on display in the children’s emergency room because the dogs ease the stress of young patients.  It is part of a national movement to integrate the power of the arts with the healing process to enhance patient care and recovery. Marty’s dog sculptures are now part of several national collections including the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library in New York which hosts a replica of FDR’s dog, Fata.

The two bronze dogs were donated to the City of Pleasanton by another H.A.P.P.Y   Harrington Art Partnership Piece for You” in 2014 and placed in front of the Valley Human Society at 3670 Nevada Street.  The playful “Sylvester” and the sitting tall “Pennington” are awaiting your visit and, of course, your smile.
