On the Count of Three
Pausing a child’s swing mid-air, joy and the loving care of parents are expressed in a 6’ high fluid bronze. Artist Jane De Decker captures a positive affirmation of life that communicates an emotional experience through simple painterly brush marks cast in bronze. The scene speaks of the love between parent and child, the freedom of a child’s imagination, and the simple joy of an everyday adventure.
DeDecker’s sculptures stop life in mid-sentence-somewhere between inhaling and exhaling- and gives form to the truth of the spirit. DeDecker’s many nationwide installations include “Harriet Tubman” at the Clinton Library, “Emily Dickenson” at Converse College, “Sharing Discoveries” at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and “Amelia Earhart” at the Earhart Elementary School in Oakland, California. Her many works have won several awards attesting to her thoughtful studies with sculptor, George Lunden, Canadian Sculptor Robert Game and attendance at the Goblins School of Tapestry in Paris, France. Jane’s successful history of public art placements across the nation affirms her renown as a figurative sculptor.
“On the Count of Three” was funded by the Pleasanton Leadership Class of 2015 and the Harrington Art Partnership Piece for You” (H.A.P.P.Y). It is located facing Bernal Ave, on the backside of the Pleasanton Library.
