A vibrant new mural is set to be completed by May 30 at Harvest Park Middle School, adding a splash of creativity to the campus’s beloved “Pi Park.” The mural was designed by longtime HPMS teacher Sharon Curulla and brought to life by the artistic talents of parent Dipti Liya.
This inspiring project was coordinated in partnership with the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council and reflects the school community’s deep commitment to creativity and the arts. The mural also marks a meaningful milestone for Curulla, who is retiring this year after 28 years of teaching math in the Pleasanton Unified School District.
“I wanted to leave something lasting for the school community—a celebration of math, creativity, and the spirit of collaboration that makes Harvest Park so special,” said Curulla. “It’s been a joy to work with so many dedicated students, staff, and families over the years.”
For Liya, the mural was a way to connect art with education and community. “Creating this mural was a wonderful experience,” said Liya. “It was an honor to contribute to a project that celebrates both Ms. Curulla’s legacy and the vibrant spirit of the school. I hope it brings joy and inspiration to students for years to come.”
The project also drew enthusiastic support from the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council and Anne Giancola, mural artist and PCAC Board Member who is assisting with the project. “The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council is proud to support projects like this that bring art into everyday spaces,” said PCAC President Kelly Cousins. “This mural not only enhances the school environment but also celebrates the power of creative expression and community collaboration.”
Principal Russell Campisi was also a strong proponent of the project, playing a key role in helping to make the mural a reality.
